This August, Kate Spade New York partnered up with NYC-based artist Craig Redman. Redman is the graphic designer behind the blog Darcel Disappoints. Together they created fun, whimsical designs that pay homage to New York City. The collection contains the usual Kate pieces including clothes, jewelry, handbags and accessories, but with the graphic Darcel touch. For example, there is a circle skirt with apples printed on it, a doughnut bangle, a belt with a soft pretzel clasp, a hotdog coin purse, and a “New York, I Love You” phone case.

Kate Spade is such a classic brand, but recently, while there are some fun standout pieces, collections have lost some of the fun element that the brand was originally known for. Redman and his character Darcel pump a whole collection full of life. There is not one piece that can be described as “tame.” With the changing seasons, it was nice to see Kate Spade go back to its New York roots and “live colorfully” again.
